'''Martha Marie Berger'''
HALSTEAD&#151;Martha Marie Berger, 96, retired teacher, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) at Halstead Place Assisted Living.
She was born Sept. 14, 1906, to Edward and Amalia (Mueller) Ewy in Arlington. They preceded her in death. She married Walter Berger May 9, 1932, in Halstead. He preceded her in death April 7, 1944.
She was a member of Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton. She was a 1923 graduate of Arlington High School and a 1949 graduate of Bethel College. She also was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, having taught in Arlington, Little River, Germany and France.
Survivors include: a cousin and caregivers, Lester and Winifred Ewy of North Newton; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by: two sisters, Emma Ewy and Tillie Hege.
Committal service for the ashes will be 1:30 p. m. Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at Halstead Cemetery.
Memorial service will be 3 p. m. Wednesday at Bethel College Mennonite Church with the Revs. Steve Yoder and Heide Regier Kreider officiating.
Memorials have been established with the Mennonite Central Committee in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, 418 Chestnut Street, Halstead, KS 67056.
