JOHN M. HIEBERT

John M. Hiebert was born October 18 1894 at Bergfeld near Plum Coulee: Maniltoba, and went to be with the Lord on Apri'l 16, 1972, at the age of 77, after a lengthy 'iHness.

He was convened at 17 and that same summer was bap,tized by Rev. John W arkent'ine and received into ,the Grosswe'ide MB Ohurch. On Oc:t'Ober 27, 1918 he was married to Helena Schroeder wi,th whom he shared 53 ye'ars o-f companionship . Th e Lord blessed this union with two sons and two daughters. They made tlheir home on farms 'in various disitricts: Gmssweid€7, ROlseno'rt, 16 years a't Mellba, and 22 years at Lowe Farm, before reitiring to Wink·ler ,in 1964.

Mr. Hiebert tO'ok a keen interest in church and community affa1irs. H'e was active in youth worka~ Me·lba and Lowe Farm. Bec-ause he loved music, he enjoyed the 40 years he spent singing in church choirs. He al·so s·erved on several school boards: 11 years at Meilba and several ye'arsat Lowe Farm and ·Heabert school districts.

His tamily remember his love for peopi/e, his y'outhful spirit and the many hours he spent rerading his B'ible. His des'ire to serve his Lord and Master by helping people led him to work as grounds supervisor and dellivery man 8't the W'inlder B'ible Camp after his ret'irement to W·inkler. He often said tha~ those five years were the best Y'ears o'f his life. He also enjoyed his work as care'taker of the church act'ivity centre.

He became ill in Delcember, 1969 an'd cominued in ~aiiling health until he wen't to be with the Lord on Apr'il 16, 1972. He is survived by his wife Herlena; one daughter, Mrs. Abe C. (Blma) Klassen and her husiband,W'inkler; two sons, Allan and his wife Karthy of Winnipeg, Art and h'is wife E'lva of Artikokan, ·Ont.; nine grandchildren; five brothers and four sisters. Two bro,thers, a slister 'and one daughter pre-deoe,ased him. The funera'l servkes for Mr. Hi'ebert were conducted from the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church on April 20 wi,1)h Rev. Jiohn Schmidt, Rev. James Nikke'l (The P'a's) and Rev. John Block (,C'alrman) minister'ing. Interment took place at the Grossweide Cemetery.
