Mr. and Mrs. Schowalter and two smaller children left home by motor on Friday morning for Colorado. An accident near Lakin, Kan., in which the car overturned caused Mrs. Schowalter's injuries. Mr. Schowalter was badly cut but he was able to come here with the two younger children, leaving his wife at Lakin. When he arrived home he found Opal, the oldest child who had been left a home with her grandmother, working about the house. Shortly after his arrival the girl complained of terrible headache and she soon became unconscious. She died before a physician arrived. The cause of death was diagnosed as complications of heart trouble and it was believed that there was a blood clot on the brain. |

DOUBLE TRAGEDY VISITS MOUNDRIDGE FAMILY
Newton, Kan., Oct. 15. — Mrs. F. K. Schowalter of near Moundridge was brought to Bethel hospital on a stretcher this morning in a critical condition with injuries received Saturday when the car in which she and members of her family were riding was overturned.
Mrs. Schowalter is the mother of Opal Schowalter, aged 14, who died suddenly at her home in Emma township Saturday afternoon following an illness of only a few hours. Mrs. Schowalter's condition is such that she has not been told of the death of her daughter.
