Prediger Jacob H. Quiring ward am 1. Juli, 1875 zu Köppenthal, Rußland geboren als Sohn von Johann Quiring, Aeltester der Mennonitengemeinde an der Volga. Im Alter von elf Jahren ward Jakob von seinem Vater in die Mennonitische Realanstalt am Weierhof, Deutschland getan, wo er blieb bis er seine Studien dort beendete. Dann trat er ein in das Predigerseminar zu Basel in der Schweiz; und mit 21 Jahren kam er zurück nach Rußland. Er wurde dann von seinem Vater als Prediger ordiniert und diente dort als Reiseprediger der Mennonitenkirche bis er in 1905 in Begleitung von H. Epp nach Mountain Lake, Minn. kam und der Allgemeine Konferenz beiwohnte. Darauf diente er einige Jahre dieser und der Westlichen Distrikt-Konferenz als Reiseprediger und besuchte Gemeinden im mittlern Westen, an der Westküste und auch in Canada. Am 17. September, 1908 heiratete er Frl. Dora Haury, Tochter von Dr. S. S. Haury, Newton, Kansas. Im Herbst 1907 trat er in das Moody Bible Institut in Chicago ein und studierte auch im McCormick Theological Seminary und der Chicago Universität weiter. In 1913 verlieh ihm McCormick Seminary ein Fellowship und er trat in die Keiser [sic] Wilhelm Universität in Berlin, Deutschland, ein. Nach dem Kriege kam er zurück und war im Witmarsum Seminar und Bluffton College, Bluffton, Ohio, von 1921 bis 1931 tätig als Professor der Griechischen und Hebräischen Sprachen und der Biblischen Literatur. Von 1931 bis zu seinem Tode am 26. Oktober, 1942 wohnte er in New York. Er war ein aktives Glied der Riverside Church, deren Pastor Dr. Henry Emerson Fosdick ist. Nebst nahen Verwandten in Rußland überleben ihn hier seine Gattin und 3 Töchter: Frau Maurice Huber, Cleveland, Ohio; Frau William Williams, Columbus, Ohio, und Helene. Das Begräbnis fand am 31. Oktober zu Bluffton, Ohio statt, wobei Prediger J. N. Smucker daselbst die Leitung hatte, und Dr. Ed. G. Kaufman vom Bethel College Trostworte sprach, anlehnend an die Worte Pauli, 1. Kor. 13:12 "Wir sehen jetzt durch einen Spiegel in einem dunkeln Wort; dann aber von Angesicht zu Angesicht."
