Esther Stucky, wife of Jonas L. Stucky and daughter of Rev. and Mrs. C. J. Goering, was born near Moundridge, Kansas on the 24th of February, 1902. From the home of her parents she attended district school, later the preparatory school and the high school at Moundridge. She also attended Bethel College where she graduated from the academy and took about three years of the college work. After completion of her studies she taught for three years, one year in Elyria, one year in the district school where she had been a pupil, and one year in the city schools of Moundridge.

In early youth she consecrated her life to Jesus Christ and was baptized on the 21st of October, 1917, at which time she also united with the Eden Mennonite Church near Moundridge, Kansas, where she remained a faithful member until her departure out of this life.

She was united in holy matrimony to Jonas L. Stucky, on the 15th of August, 1926, and assumed to obligation to become a mother to the three-year old son that the husband had from a former marriage. This obligation she faithfully fulfilled, being a devoted wife and a faithful mother. The happy union, however, was not to be of long duration. Not even a year and a half they lived together when death claimed the wife and the husband was left widowed and the son motherless for a second time.

About a month ago the deceased began to fail in health. For the last eight days she was severely sick. In order that she might have the best of attention, she was taken to Bethel Hospital on Thursday, January 26. Altho physicians did their best, she did not respond to medical treatment. In her sickness and suffering she submitted to the will of the Lord. Gladly would she have remained with her dear ones, but she was also willing and prepared to answer death's call. She died at Bethel Hospital, Newton, Kansas on Wednesday, February 1, at 10:00 A. M. at the age of 25 years, 11 months and 8 days. She leaves to mourn her bereaved husband, the four year old son to whom she became so faithful a mother, her parents, three sisters, two brothers, and a large circle of relatives and firneds. — Moundridge Journal.
