CATHARINE ZIMMERLY ZUERCHER

Catharine Zimmerly Zuercher, daughter of John and Elizabeth Basinger Zimmerly, was born in Green township, Wayne county, Ohio on November 1, 1858, and passed to her eternal reward at the home of her son, Isaac, on July 2, 1952, at the age of 93 years, eight months and one day.

She resided in some part of Wayne county all of her life. In the early years of her life she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour, was baptized and received into the Mennonite church, to which faith she remained true until the time of her departure.

Though for many years she was of failing health, yet she was always patient and resigned to the will of her Lord through much affliction. She was a lover of music and poetry, and had committed many poems to memory and enjoyed repeating them when the declining days of life had come. For the past ten years she was unable to attend church services. In the recent past years she enjoyed very much to have others come and sing for her, read the Scriptures and pray with her.

On September 6, 1887, she was united in the bond of matrimony to David Zuercher who preceded her in death on January 30, 1947. They had shared life’s joys and sorrows for nearly sixty years.

Surviving are three son [sic]: Edwin, Isaac and Enos, of R. D. 2, Orrville, and one daughter, Leah, Mrs. Reuben Lehman. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and also many other relatives and friends.

On July 5, funeral services were held from her late home and at the Kidron Mennonite church, with Noah Hilty, I. W. Rohrer, Reuben Hofstetter and Allen Bixler officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Irvin Christ, Katie Basinger and Martha Welty of Pandora: Alberta Zuercher of Berne, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Emil Kurtz of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Albert Grieser of Archbold, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Beyler and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Zuercher and family of Wooster, and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Miller of North Canton.
