Kansas Farmer Killed By Electric Shock
ELMER ZIMMERMAN, 66, TOUCHES FENCE CHARGED BY POWER LINE
Protection, Kan. — An unusual farm accident on Sept. 17 claimed the life of Elmer Zimmerman, 66, well-known farmer here, when he touched an electric fence charged with 2,300 volts of electricity from a downed power line.
The Comanche county under-sheriff reported that Mr. Zimmerman, preparing to water his hogs from a tank on his pick-up truck, apparently stepped across the fence into the pen, and then touched it as he reached over to open the tank valve. It is believed he did not notice the power line, which had been blown down in a night-time storm.
A native of Harper county Mr. Zimmerman had lived in this community since 1907.
Surviving are the widow, Erma; three sons, Wayne in Afghanistan, Alfred and Myron of Protection; five daughters, Mrs. Elsie Gunden and Mrs. Rubie Stotts of Goshen, Ind., Mrs. Norma Conrad of Sterling, Ill., Mrs. Lois Lauffer of Protection, and Jo Ann of the home:
