JOHN ZIMMERLY

John Zimmerly, son of the late Peter and Mary Ann (Steiner) Zimmerly, was born near Kidron, Ohio on Nov. 20, 1888, died at his home in Wooster, Dec. 14, 1957. Fifteen months ago he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, from which he never recovered.

As a young man he accepted Christ as his Savior and was a member of the Kidron church.

In spite of his handicap in hearing and speaking which he received through an illness at the age of three years, he learned to read and write and spoke by making letters with his fingers. He bore his affliction patiently.

He was married to Helen Weuthrick on Aug. 14, 1927.

Surviving are his wife Helen; five sons, Dennis, Alvin and Ellis of the home, Paul of Wooster and Amos serving in the Air Force in Alaska; four daughters, Verna, Nora and Mrs. Clara Gerber of the home, and Orpha (Mrs. Richard Rowland) of Wooster; seven grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth, Mrs. Otto Kamph of Dalton. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Dec. 18 at the Kidron Mennonite Church with Reuben Hofstetter and William Detweiler officiating. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
