ALVIN ZACHARIAS

Alvin Zacharias, son of Abraham and Elizabeth Zacharias, was born April 15, 1905, at Lehigh, Kan. When he was 17 years old his parents moved to Gotebo, Okla. Here they lived till 1937 when they moved to California.

While in Oklahoma he committed his life to Jesus Christ and became a member of the General Conference church there. He was baptized by Rev. Abraham Froese.

In 1928 he was married to Miss Magdalena Pankratz. To this union were born six children: Alvin Jr.; Margie, who preceded her father in death in 1948; Elise; Allen, twin brother of Elise who died in infancy; Evaleen and Cathleen.

Mr. Zacharias' work consisted of farming in Oklahoma, farming in California, and for the last 17 years doing carpentry work in California. He was a deeply Christian man, always assisting in the work of the Lord, never speaking much yet always having a real burden for the work. At the time of his decease he was a member of the church council of the Bethel Mennonite Church of Winton, member of the trustees and secretary of the Sunday school.

He passed away August15, 1958, leaving to mourn his early decease his wife, his children and a host of relatives and friends. He had been ill with cancer since April. “We sorrow not as those who have no hope.”
