Noted Mathematician Dies in California

Berne, Ind. — Word was received here of the death some time ago of Dr. J. W. Theodore Youngs of Santa Cruz, Calif., son of the late Dr. C. H. Suckau.

Dr. Youngs was formerly chairman of the Department of Mathematics at Indiana University and also director of the Graduate Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics there. He had been professor of mathematics at the University of California since 1965.

Dr. Youngs grew up in Berne when his father was serving as pastor of the First Mennonite Church. Dr. Suckau was also a pioneer missionary to India and the founder of Grace Bible Institute, Omaha.
