MICHAEL YOUNG

Charles Michael Packard Young died May 14. He was born Jan. 20, 1950 in Montreal to Gordon and Phyllis Young. He attended boarding school, where his athletic skills were known to outshine his academic skills. He loved life in the fast lane and was the life of the party. As a young man he met a young girl on the beach who told him about Jesus. At 21, Mike accepted Christ as his Saviour and his life was radically changed. He was a devoted, wholehearted and enthusiastic servant of Jesus Christ. He attended Nipawin (Sask.) Bible Institute where he was mentored by Rev. Jacob Wiebe. Later he graduated from Providence Theological Seminary. He married Shirley Anderson Feb. 12, 1977. They spent their entire married lives in ministry to others. He touched the life of every person he knew in a memorable way. He pastored South Park MB Church, Altona, Man.; Riverview MB Church, Moncton, N.B., and Cariboo Bethel Church, Williams Lake, B.C. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in Dec. 2003. Always sensitive to the people around him, he preached the gospel in cowboy attire at the Williams Lake Stampede, won tennis and weightlifting championships, and was active in community events. He was a servant ready to do whatever needed to be done to advance the gospel. He will be remembered for his competitive nature, his outgoing personality, the cups of coffee at Tim Hortons, but most of all for his passion to know Christ and make Him known. He is mourned by Shirley, daughters Carolee Stevenson and Johanna Rudichuk, 3 grandchildren, 1 brother, 4 sisters. Memorial services were held in Williams Lake, Moncton and Calgary.
