Death Claims Invalid Youths At Kalona, Ia.

WM. YODER, CEREBRAL PALSY PATIENT, STRANGLED IN BED

Kalona, Iowa. — Two youths of the Kalona community, both of them handicapped with severe illness, were called away in death recently on succeeding days. They were cousins.

William Yoder, 17-year-old son of Daniel J. and Drusilla (Nissley) Yoder who was an invalid due to cerebral palsy, accidentally strangled Feb. 12 when his head was caught between the rungs of his bed. Funeral services were held at the Fairview Conservative Mennonite Church.

The following day, 12-year-old Harvey Bender, son of David and Susanna (Yoder) Bender, died at the home of pneumonia. He had been a polio patient since 1953 and had spent much time in the hospital. Recently an iron lung was secured and he was cared for at home.

Funeral services were held at the Joe Hershberger home. Survivors include the parents, two brothers and six sisters, and the grandparents, Harvey Bender of Kalona and John D. Yoders of Kansas.
