Iowa Farmer Killed In Field Accident

Kalona, Iowa. — A Kalona area farmer lost his life while engaged in spring field work near here Wednesday morning, May 19.

Wilbur J. Yoder, 46, was harrowing in a field at his farm home when he apparently stopped to make an adjustment on a chain being used to pull the harrow. For some reason the tractor backed up and he was pinned under one of the drive wheels, crushing his skull.

A native of Iowa County and thee son of Jason G. and Mary Schlabaugh Yoder, he was married in 1944 to Ruth Ann Leibig [sic Liebig]. They had farmed northwest of Kalona for the past 18 years.

Surviving are his widow; five children, Mary Beth, a student at Hesston College, Mina, Reagon [sic Reagan], Anthony and Kim, all of the home; his mother; one brother and one sister.

He was a member of the East Union Mennonite Church, where the funeral was conducted on May 22.
