NETTIE HOOLEY YODER

Nettie (Hooley) Yoder, daughter of Leo and Emma (Miller) Hooley, was born July3, 1895 near Wellman, Iowa and departed this life on Dec. 16, 1964 at the age of 69 years. In 1907 she accepted Christ as her Saviour and was received into the fellowship of the West Union Mennonite Church by baptism by Bishop J. K. Yoder.

On June 2, 1915 she was united in marriage to Omer J. Yoder with whom she lived in matrimony nearly 50 years. To this union were born three children: Russel Lamonte of Parnell, Iowa, Kathryn Bernice (Mrs. Daniel Yoder) of Parnell, and Duane Leo of Fairfield, Iowa. She is survived by her husband, three children, 13 grandchildren, and one sister, Naomi, Mrs. William Slabaugh of Wellman, Iowa. Her parents and one brother, Orie, preceded her in death.

Immediately after their marriage she and her husband set up housekeeping on a farm ten miles northwest of Wellman, Iiowa in the West Union neighborhood. They lived there until they moved to Wellman in 1947.

After moving to Wellman they transferred their membership to the Wellman Mennonite Church. In both the West Union and Wellman churches she lived an active and useful life. In all her church relations she was regular and faithful. Among other responsibilities, she served in such capacities as Sunday school teacher, sewing circle president, member of various committees, and as a promoter of various projects. Nettie was a hard worker. She lived abundantly and was always willing to do her part. She was one of those persons whom the church would always depend on.

She often prayed for the work of the Church. Her children, grandchildren and others frequently sought her counsel.

The memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Wellman Mennonite Church in charge of Rev. Gideon G. Yoder assisted by Rev. George S. Miller. Interment was made in the West Union Mennonite Cemetery.
