Goshen, Ind., Apr. 21. — John M. Yoder, 66, one of Goshen's most prominent and influential business men, passed away at his home, 423 South Fifth street, at 9 a. m. today after an illness which had confined hm to his home since early in January. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage. He had apparently been recovering until he was stricken again last Monday.
Mr. Yoder was president of the Goshen Milk Condensing company, vice-president of the City National bank of Goshen, and president of the Elkhart Ice Cream Company. He had been a resident of Goshen since 1906 and was held in the highest esteem by business associates and citizens of the city.
He was born in Belleville, Pa., February 16, 1866, the son of Christina Z. and Rosanna McGonegal Yoder. He spent his early life in the Belleville community. Mr. Yoder was married to Sarah E. Hooley at Belleville December 29, 1887.
Mr. Yoder came to Goshen in 1906, with his family to enroll in Goshen College. In 1909 he helped to organized the Goshen Milk Condensing company and has served as president and manager since that time. He was in the lumber business for a period of nine years in Belleville.
Four years ago, Mr. Yoder organized the Elkhart Ice Cream company and has served as president since that time. He had been a director of the City National Bank for 10 years, and held the office of vice-president for a period of five years.
Mr. Yoder is survived by his widow Sarah, one son, George C., of Goshen and four grandchildren, Audrie Jane, Phillip, Bettie and Bonnie Yoder and two brothers, J. W. Yoder of Huntingdon, Pa., and Levi M. Yoder, of Belleville, Pa. Two daughters and a brother preceded him in death.
The Rev. G. T. Soldner, pastor of the Eighth Street Mennonite church of which Mr. Yoder was an active member, will be in charge of funeral services assisted by the Rev. T. V. Dillon, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Burial will be made in Violett cemetery. — Goshen Daily News-Times.
