Israel T. Yoder

Israel T. Yoder was the son of Christian J. and Salome (Zook) Yoder. He was born Nov. 10, 1854, died February 3, 1931 at his home on West Main Street, Belleville, aged 76 years, 2 months and 22 days.

He had been failing in health for the last several years. On September 14, 1930 he was stricken by a stroke of apoplexy. His right side was paralyzed and his speech was lost. He was glad, however, to see his many friends, who came to see him and tried to encourage him in the closing hours of his earthly life.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Allgyre [sic Allgyer] Yoder, four sons and three daughters, also 22 grandchildren and many friends. Jesse J. Yoder, living upon the old homestead, near Belleville; Samuel N. Yoder of Surrey, N. D., Christian G. Yoder of Hubbard, Oregon; and Thomas I. Yoder of Bayport, Michigan, (who attended his father's funeral), Another son died in infancy. The three daughters surviving are, Mrs. Jacob (Mollie) Hartzler; Mrs. Thomas (Sadie) Spicher and Mrs. Ezra (Cora) Hartzler, all residing near the parental home, Belleville.

Mrs. Salina Hostetler and Mrs. Salome King, both of Belleville, are sisters of the deceased. They are the daughters of Christian G. Yoder, deceased, and the only two living of a family of 11 brothers and sisters. One by one they were gathered to the Great Beyond, where the wicked cease from troubling and the weary are at rest.

The funeral services were held at his late home, Saturday morning, 9:30 o'clock, and at the Locust Grove church at 10 o'clock.

Father had his funeral arrangements made for quite a while, having selected his pallbearers and also his text, Titus 2-11-14, from which the ministers were to speak. Jonas Yoder spoke a few words at the home and Samuel T. Yoder, E. D. Hess and John L. Mast took part in the services at the church.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were, Simon Zook, a cousin of Mr. Yoder, and his wife from Earlville, Lancaster Co., Mike Stoltzfus, wife and son Morris, Earlville, Lancaster County; Mrs. John Harshberger and daughter, Alice, Mrs. Jeff Hostetler, Mrs. W. A. Keener, Rufus Harshberger and 2 daughters and grandson and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Harshberger, all from McVeytown; and Mrs. Abram Wagner from Yeagertown.
