12-Yr. Old Premont, Texas Boy Dies of Burns

MANY ATTEND FINAL SERVICES IN HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM

Premont, Texas. — This community was shocked upon hearing news of the accident which befell Johnny Wohlgemuth, age 12, who was matally [sic] burned while alone in the woods the night of January 7. He was rushed to the Falfurrias hospital by his mother, Mrs. H. W. (Martha) Wohlgemuth, but passed away early Monday morning.

The boy was engaged in burning stickers from cactus plants, using kerosene, so that the cattle could feed on them. It is not known exactly how the accident occurred but it appeared he had tried to extinguish his burning clothing by rolling on the ground.

Classmates Attend In a Body

Funeral services were held in the Premont high school auditorium in order to accommodate the large crowd of friends and sympathizers. The youth was in the seventh grade at the Premont school, and the entire seventh grade classes with their teachers, as well as several other classes attended as a body. Members of the class served as ushers.

The services were arranged by Rev. J. W. Duerksen of the M. B. church. He spoke words of comfort and read the obituary. Rev. H. F. Reist offered prayer. Rev. B. W. Vogt, also of the M. B. church in Premont but presently residing in Corn, Okla., gave the message according to James 4:13,14. Special numbers in song were given by a group consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Swartz, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Swartz, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Esau, Mrs. Albert Good and J. H. Andress.

Services were concluded at the Premont cemetery with Rev. Duerksen speaking and Rev. Walter Gomez from Edinburg offering prayer. Pall bearers were Joel Franz, Abner Penner, Clyde Schuchert, Lawrence Flaming, Joel Flaming and Harold Flaming.
