CORNELIUS WOHLGEMUTH

Cornelius Wohlgemuth, 84, of Winnipeg passed away at the Concordia Hospital on March 17 after a short but severe illness. He was born on May 3, 1886 at Deutsch Wymyschle, Poland, the son of Heinrich and Anna Wohlgemuth. Here he also spent his childhood and youth and attended school. In 1903 he accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour and in 1904 he was baptized upon his confession of faith and became a member of th e Mennonite Brethren church at Deutsch Wymyschle.

As a young man he served in the Russian alternative service and following his release studied bookkeeping and became employed as a bookkeeper in southern Russia. He was married to Katharina Janzen on January 27, 1913 at Sergiejewka, and here the first two of their children, Mary and Albert, were born. In 1922 he returned to Poland with his family and a few years later, in 1926, they left Poland for Canada .

They spent a short time in Niverville, then moved to Winnipeg and then bought a farm near Landmark, Manitoba, where they farmed from 1928 to 1951. In 1951 they moved back to Winnipeg where they affiliated with the North Kildonan Church. His beloved wife Katharina passed away suddenly on June 29, 1968.

He is survived by four daughters, Mary, Winnipeg, Mrs. Arnold (Annie) Reimer, Landmark, Mrs. Jacob (Martha) Regehr, Ile des Chenes, Manitoba, Betty, Winnipeg ; one son, Albert, and his wife Helene of Niverville; 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
