Funeral services for Jacob J. Woelk took place Apr. 16 at the Koerner Heights Church of the Mennonite Brethren, Newton, with Kerwin Thiessen in charge. Woelk, a retired farmer, died Apr. 13 at the Bethel Home for the Aged at the age of 89. Woelk was married in 1918 to the former Bertha Nickel at Goessel, and they lived in the Goessel-Newton area most of their lives. She died in 1981. Surviving are three sons, Leonard of Ione, Wash., Ben of Newport, Wash. and Milton of Bristow, Okla.; two daughters, Margaret Parrish of Musekgon, Mich. and Hilda Regier of Newton; three brothers, Henry of Newton, Frank of Hillsboro and John of Goessel; 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. One daughter, Tillie Toews, preceded him in death.
