Mrs. Joseph Wittrig

Mrs. Joseph G. Wittrig, Alice Wittmer was born in Milhause, Alsace Loraine [sic Lorraine] on December 6, 1854 and died August 24, at 9:45 P. M. at her home at Noble. She was the daughter of John and Anna Eicher Wittmer and came to the United States at the age of 13 living in the neighborhood of Noble and Wayland all but thirteen years which were spent in Kansas.

She was married to Joseph Wittrig on October 21, 1875 and was the mother of eleven children, one son and ten daughters. The son John H. and daughters, Mrs. Margaret Spenler and Mrs. Susan Alston are deceased.

She is survived by her aged and blind husband, eight daughters, Mrs. Mary Litwiller, Mrs. Sarah Unzicker of Hopedale, Ill., Mrs. Fannie Zehr of Wayland, Mrs. Katherine Augsberger, Sweeney, Texas, Mrs. Emma Preheim, Freeman, S. D., Mrs. Anna Nelson, Washington, Mrs. Nettie Preheim, Furler, S. D., three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Katies Kauffman of Washington state, Mrs. Mary Wittrig of Wayland, Mrs. Jospehine Musser of Olds and Peter E. Wittmer of Wayland. Sixty grand children and fifteen great grandchildren and a host of dear friends.

She joined the Eicher church on youth and remained faithful until death.

Services were held at two o'clock at the home Saturday afternoon and at 2:30 at the pastor, Rev. H. J. Schrag assisted by Rev. Basinger of Wayland. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. — Wayland News.
