JOHN MANLEY WIGGINS

The Christian Fellowship Chapel of Hampshire, Ontario, lost one of its most faithful members recently, as the result of an accident.

Jack Wiggins was born at Havelock, in Peterborough County, but lived for the past 21 years with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Cooke, on the 6th Concession of Orillia Township.

Following the sale of the Cooke farm last fall, Jack spent many hours of work on the new church building at Hampshire. At the time of his death, he was employed on a winter works project. The truck in which he and four other Township employees were riding was struck by a train when attempting to cross the railway tracks at Uhthoff.

Visibility was very limited due to the high piles of snow at the crossing . Jack was the most seriously injured of the five men, and died before reaching hospital.

Rev. Peter Klassen conducted the funeral service at Orillia, on February 10, and assisted at a second service the following day at Marmora. Interment was at Marmora Protestant Cemetery.
