MRS. KATHARINE WIENSS

Mrs. Katharine Wienss, daughter of Abraham and Margaret Reimer, was born August 12, 1877, in South Russia. In the year 1883 she came to America with her parents, who located on a farm west of Beatrice, Nebr.

She received her education in the parochial school taught by Rev. J. K. Penner. She was baptized upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior by Elder Gerhard Penner on May 14, 1894. On April 20, 1922, she was united in marriage to Henry E. Wienss, with whom she shared the joys and sorrows of life for almost 25 years.

About two years ago her health began to fail. On October 10, 1946, she was taken to the Mennonite hospital at Beatrice where she received tender care until she passed away on November 8, 9:00 p.m., reaching the age of 69 years. She leaves her husband, one step-daughter, one step-son and wife, six grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers, and many relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wienss were held Tuesday, November 12. Rev. Elbert Koontz, pastor of the Beatrice Mennonite church officiated at the Harmon Mortuary. He read several selected Scripture passages, spoke words of comfort to relatives and friends, and led in prayer. “Jesus Christ, My Savior” and “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder” were sung by a men’s quartet composed of Albert, Edward, Rudolph and Willard Claassen.

Further services held from the First Mennonite church west of Beatrice were in charge of Rev. Walter H. Dyck, Newton, Kansas. The congregation joined in singing of the German hymn, “Nur Mit Jesu’ Will Ich Pilger Wandern.” Rev. Dyck read Psalm 23 and led in prayer. His German meditation was based on Ps. 23:1, “The Lord is My Shepherd.” Following the reading of the obituary he presented a soul stirring message based on the six verses of this familiar Psalm. The quartet sand, “That Beautiful Land,” and “We’ll All Be There.”

Interment was in the church cemetery. “Abide With Me” was sung by the quartet. Rev. Dyck read 2 Cor. 5:1-4 and spoke the committal prayer. Rev. Elbert Koontz gave the benediction.
