HENRY E. WIENSS

Henry Ernst Wienss was born November 25, 1864, at Newteich [sic Neuteich] bei Danzig, West Preussen, Germany. His parents were Peter and Agathe, nee Allert Wienss. He received his education in Germany and was baptized upon the confession of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour by Pastor Mannhart [sic Mannhardt].

Coming to this country in 1886, he settled in Beatrice, Nebraska. On October 22, 1891, he was united in marriage with Anna von Riesen. Three children were born into this home. Ernest, who preceded him in death October 13, 1913, at the early age of 21, Marie (Mrs. Gustav Penner), and Leo. The mother of this home passed away April 7, 1918.

On April 20, 1922, he was united in marriage with Katherine Reimer, with whom he shared joys for nearly 25 years. She passed on November 8, 1946.

Failing in health during the last few months, he was taken to the Mennonite hospital September 9 and passed to his eternal reward September 19, 1948 at 10:00 a. m.

He leaves two children, one daughter-in-law, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many relatives and friends.

He often repeated verses of Scripture and hymns that were dear to him. One of these is the second stanza of a hymn from Gesangbuch.

“Jesu, hilf beten, ach Jesu hilf beten!
     Siehe, mir mangelt’s an Weisheit und Kraft;
Wirst du mich, Mittler, mich selber vertreten,
     Ist es mit Beten vergeblich geschafft.
Soll es gelingen, so muszt du mich lehren
     Und musz dein Geist mir das Abba gewahren.”
