MARIE WIENS

Marie Wiens passed away Mar. 14 at Didsbury (Alta.) Health Care Centre. She was born Jan. 21, 1904 to David and Marie Wiens in Altenau, Molotschna, Russia, the second of 9 children. In 1925 the family immigrated to Herschel, Sask. The same year, they bought a farm in New Brigdon, Alta. She milked cows, raised chickens and did other chores. Since there was no church building, families met together for Sunday worship in various homes, including the Wienses. She worked as a cook at. Didsbury Bible School during the winters of 1942 and 1943. In 1952, she, her parents and 2 sisters moved to Coaldale, Alta. She and her sisters Liese and Anna ran the household, did domestic work in Lethbridge, Alta. and cared for her aging parents. They were involved in Coaldale MB Church and sewed blankets and quilts for MCC, giving generously of her time and means. She enjoyed outdoor work; she kept a beautiful garden and yard. She enjoyed participating in Golden Age Camp at Camp Evergreen . After Anna died, she and Liese moved to Sunny South Manor. Marie later moved to Sunny South Lodge and in August 1998 to Didsbury Health Care Centre. She spent most of her last year in a wheelchair. Predeceased by brothers Jacob, David, Bernard and Peter and sisters Tina, Anna and Liese, she is mourned by her brother John of Three Hills, Alta. The funeral was Mar. 20 in Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church, Three Hills, with Jake P. Doerksen and Harold Hunter ministering.
