MARIA WIENS

Mrs. Maria Wiens (nee Janzen) was born on December 1, 1875 in Wiesenfeld, Schoenfeld region, South Russia. During her youth she was baptized and received into the Mennonite church. On June 11, 1896 she was married to Nickolai Wiens. In the years following she realized her lost state and accepted Christ as her Saviour. In 1907 they were baptized upon confession of faith and accepted into the Mennonite Brethren Church.

On June 11, 1912, her husband passed away and the family re-Iocated in the Crimea. The death of her eldest son and increasingly difficult times led the family to emigrate to Canada in 1925. She lived in Holmfield and Winkler for a number of years and, in later years, with her children. The last few weeks of her life were spent in the Tabor Home in Morden, Manitoba. She passed away here on February 22, 1968, at the age of 92.

Surviving her are two sons: Nickolai of Wheatley, Ont., and John of St. Catharines, Ont.; three daughters: Mrs. J. F. (Mary) Poetker of Morden, Manitoba, Mrs. A. H. (Nettie) Martens of Killarney, Man., and lVII's. H. (Tina) Lenzmann; one daughter-in-law and three sons-in-law; 34 grandchildren, and 49 great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. Besides her husband, one son, one daughter and one daughter-in-law predeceased her.

Funeral services were held on February 26, in the Morden Church with Rev. Harry Martens of the Lena Church officiating and the brethren J. P. Neufeld and F. H. Friesen ministering. Interment took place in the Winkler cemetery.
