John Curtis Wiens

John Curtis Wiens, 74, 510 S.E. Second, railroad clerk for Santa Fe Railroad for 43 years, died Wednesday (March 17, 1999) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.

He was born March 24, 1924, in Newton to joh D. and Frieds (Janzen) Wiens. He married Catherine Regier July 28, 1950, in North Newton. She survives of Newton.

He was a member of Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton and Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. he enjoyed woodworking, camping, coin collecting and gardening. He was a World War II veteran, where he served in the U.S. navy in Hawaii for more than 2 1/2 years.

Other survivors include: one son, Dr. Timothy B. Wiens of Newton; one daughter, Mary Beth Wiens of St. Paul, Minn.; one sister, Elda Bachman of North Newton; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethel College Mennonite Church with the Revs. Darrell Fast and Norma J. Johnson officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 pm. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with Health Ministries of Harvey County in care of the funeral home.
