HENRY PETER WIENS

Henry P. Wiens of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away on May 29. The funeral was conducted from the East Chilliwack Mennonite Brethren Church on June 3 with Rev. Ben Heppner and Rev. George Thielman ministering. Rev. H. G. Klassen led in a graveside meditation.

Henry Wiens, was born in Kleefeld, southern Russia, on October 3, 1911. The Wiens family left Russia for Canada in 1926 and settled in Manitoba. It was here he accepted Christ as his Saviour at the age of 16. Later, together with his family, he moved to Coaldale, Alberta, where he was baptized and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. He enjoyed participating in church activities, especially chair groups . His Bible school training was shortened due to his father's death.

On November 5, 1939 he was united in marriage to Hilda Dyck in South Abbotsford. Following the wedding, they returned to the farm in Alberta. In 1945 the Lord led them to British Columbia where they again took up farming. The East Chilliwack Church, to which they transferred their membership, requested that they serve as deacons, and after prayerful consideration they accepted. The ordination took place on November 21, 1954. He served in this capacity willingly and with a sense of duty until the end.

Upon retirement from the farm in 1970, they moved to Chilliwack. Shortly thereafter he became aware of illness which for various periods of time required hospitalization. On May 29 he passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord. His last words to his family were, "That his (God's) name may be glorified."

He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Hilda; two sans, Ewald and wife Anne and John and wife Carole; two daughters, Frieda and Helen; three grandchildren; one brother and three sisters, together with many relatives and friends.
