FLORINE WIENS

Florine Wiens, loving daughter and sister, the daughter of Jacob L. and Lena(Penner) Wiens, was born on Oct. 31, 1921, near Owasso, Okla. When she was but a young child she moved with her parents to Hillsboro, Kansas, where she attended the grade school.

As a young girl of about 16 she recognized her lost condition and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. On May 1,1938, she was baptized and united with the Mennonite Brethren Church of Hillsboro, Kansas, for fellowship.

In 1948 she came with her parents to Reedley, Calif., where she made her home until the very last.

Florine was a very kind-hearted girl, always obedient and submissive to the will of her parents. She had a great love for her Saviour, enjoyed attending all church services and took great pride in having an active part in the missionary society work. She possessed a great love for others and manifested a tender devotion to her Lord and Saviour.

On March 11, while going about her daily duties she became the victim of a tragedy when her housecoat caught on fire while she was burning some trash. She was rushed to the hospital and given first aid. During the first days of her hospitalization she seemed to get along very well. She spoke of her devotion to her Lord and assured her pastor and others that she was at peace with God.

However, complications began to set in and she was called upon to suffer greatly for several days. At about 1:30 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 1959, the day after Easter, she quietly and peacefully slipped away into eternity to meet her Lord. We as a family were sorry to see her go because we loved her and she was a great comfort and help to her parents. However, we praise God that she has been delivered from her suffering and we know that we shall meet her again. She reached the age of 37years, 4 months, and 28 days.

Those who remain to mourn her departure are the following: Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob L. Wiens, Reedley, Calif.; one brother, Menno Wiens, Mountain Lake, Minn.; three sisters, Gladys, Mrs. Franklin Toews of Warden, Wash., Lavina, Mrs. J. M. Bersuch of Long Beach, Calif. Edith, Mrs. Vernon Karber of Warden, Wash. One sister, Esther, preceded her in death in infancy. Besides these there are eight nephews, one great niece, and also many other relatives and friends who stand by in this hour of sorrow.

The memorial service was held in the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church on April 1 with Rev. Dan Friesen and Rev. Estel Schale officiating.
