PETER WILLIAM WIEBE

Peter W. Wiebe of Vancouver went home to be with the Lord he loved on July 20. He was born on January 25, 1902 to Wilhelm and Margaret Krahn Wiebe in the village of Blumenort, Manitoba, near Gretna. He grew up in a happy home with loving parents and nine brothers and sisters His early education was received in Blumenort. When many Mennonites moved to Mexico in the twenties, his parents were among thorn. Peter, however, remained in Canada and went to Saskatchewan to find work. There he married Sara Giesbrecht on May 23, 1923. They had one son, Cecil.

In 1936, the Lord sent two gospel messengers to their homestead at Neeb, Sask., and there in a log cabin Peter realized his lost condition and accepted God's offer of mercy. He followed the Lord in believer's baptism in 1938 in the Shelby River. After leaving the homestead, he worked as a carpenter for many years. In 1956 the Wiebe family moved to Haney, B.C., and for the last ten years before his retirement, Peter worked as an orderly at the Essendale Hospital. On February 22, 1970 his wife passed away, and after ten months he married a second time, to (Mrs.) Helen Bergmann, who survives him.

By open and clear testimony, Peter was accepted into the Fraserview Mennonite Brethren Church, whose member he remained until his passing. He was much concerned with the salvation and welfare of his family and offered many a silent prayer during nights when difficulty in breathing forced him to sit up.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, Helen; one son Cecil and wife Rose and their two children; four step-children; two brothers, Jake and Henry, and a sister, (Mrs.) Anna Dyck, in Mexico; and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral was conducted at the Fraserview Church on July 25 with pastor Loyal Funk ministering.
