17-Year_Old Girl Drowns At Manitoba Beach

Steinbach, Man. — Seventeen-year-old Beverly Jean Wiebe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wiebe of Grunthal, drowned recently at the campers' beach at St. Malo Provincial Park.

The girl had gone swimming at the beach with a group of young people on a Sunday afternoon. When the group came out of the water, she was not with them but it was not noticed immediately. The St. Pierre RCMP said it was nearly two and a half hours before she was reported missing at the main gate of the park. Fifteen minutes later, the lifeguard captain recovered her body from the water.

Beverly Jean was a student at the Steinbach Collegiate and during the summer was employed by J. R. Friesen and Son Ltd.
