RETIRED FARMER AND BUSINESS MAN OF WOODBURN, OREGON DIES

Woodburn, Ore. — Dan Widmer, 74, retired farmer and business man, died at the Silverton hospital May 2 following a stroke suffered at his home on April 27.

Born at Wayland, Iowa on Feb. 17, 1884, he came to Albany, Ore. as a boy with his family. He was a member of the Zion Mennonite Church near Hubbard, where in 1908 he was married to Elfie M. Yoder. She died in August 1957.

Mr. Widmer farmed at Albany, Lebanon and later Sheridan, where he also operated the Widmer Seed House for many years. In 1952 he attended the Mennonite World Conference in Switzerland at which time he also visited relatives there and in Southern France.

DAN WIDMER

Dan Widmer of Woodburn, Oregon, son of Christian and Barbara (Roth) Widmer, was born Feb. 17, 1884, near Wayland, Iowa and passed away May 2, 1958, at the Silverton, Oregon Hospital where he was taken April 27 suffering from a cerebral hemorrhage. He reached the age of 74 years, two months and 15 days.

In his youth he united with the Mennonite Church, of which he was a lifelong member. On Nov. 8,1908, he was married to Elfie M. Yoder at Hubbard, Oregon. She preceded him in death August 23, 1957.

He was a member of the Zion Mennonite Church near Hubbard, Ore.

Mr. Widmer was a retired farmer and business man, having farmed and lived at Albany, Lebanon and later Sheridan, where he also operated the Widmer Seed House for many years until moving to Woodburn in 1944. In 1952 he attended the Mennonite World Conference in Switzerland at which time he also visited a number of relatives there and in Southern France.

Surviving are two sons, Urbane and Daniel M., of Woodburn; seven daughters, Bernice (Mrs. Charles Kauffmann) of Aurora, LuElla (Mrs. Wayne Yoder) of Northridge, Calif., Priscilla (Mrs. Harry Kropf) of Albany, Pauline (Mrs. Earl Wyatt) of Tangent, Alene Widmer of Woodburn, Pearl (Mrs. Morley King) of Woodburn, and Nadine (Mrs. Virgil Books) of Salem. there are 26 grandchildren surviving, and also four brothers, Dr. J. N. Widmer of Corvallis, Rev. Herbert Widmer of Colfax, Wash., Elmer Widmer of Salem, Ezra Widmer of Albany, and two sisters, Katie (Mrs. Harl Burck) and Gladys (Mrs. Floyd Whitaker), both Albany.

Funeral services were held May 4, 1958, near Hubbard, Oregon at the Zion Mennonite Church. Officiating ministers were John Lederach, C. I. Kropf and N. A. Lind. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
