Goshen, Ind. — A car-buggy crash on rain-swept US-20 southeast of Middlebury the evening of Thanksgiving Day proved fatal to J. Henry Whetstone, 75, of rural Middlebury.
The elderly man drove his horse and buggy onto the highway and into the path of a car driven by Richard L. Hostetler, 17, of Topeka. Hostetler was not held.
Mr. Whetstone died less than an hour later at the Goshen hospital. His daughter Millie, 45, escaped serious injury, even though the buggy was reduced to kindling wood.
