ANDREW J. WELTY

Andrew J. Welty was born in Putman [sic Putnam] county, Ohio, January 9, 1862, and passed away March 16, 1952, aged 90 years, at the New-Ed-Lo Rest Home west of Wooster where he had lived the past 18 months. In his youth he joined the Mennonite church near Bluffton. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Welty and was one of a family of 16 children.

He was married to Mary, oldest daughter of the late Jacob and Catherine Steiner Amstutz of Sonnenberg, Ohio, and they lived on a farm for about 60 years in East Union township east of Apple Creek. To them were born seven sons.

They were members of the Salem Mennonite church for a number of years. In 1918 they transferred their membership to St. Peters Evangelical and Reformed church at Apple Creek. He also was a director of the Apple Creek Banking Co. for over 40 years. His wife died in 1948.

Surviving are five sons, Evan of Apple Creek, Stanley of Wooster, Clayton of Cleveland, Leo of Chester township and Harold of Indianapolis, Ind. (three sons preceded him in death); also the following brothers and sisters, Adam, who also is past 90 years and was the superintendent of the Lima Rescue Home for many years, Benjamin, also of Lima, Jacob, of Phoenix, Ariz., Noah of Reno, Nev., Albert of Evanston, Ind., Dr. Emil of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Barbara Steiner of Pandora, and Mrs. Sarah Lehman of Lima. There are also ten grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 19 at the St. Peters Evangelical and Reformed church in Apple Creek, Rev. Stanley Hartman, his pastor officiating. Burial was made in the Apple Creek cemetery.
