Sons of Former Newton Couple Die in Oregon Tragedy

Word has been received here of a quadruple slaying in Portland, Ore. on March 26 which claimed the lives of Todd Wiebe, 10, and Kevin Wiebe, 8, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Don Wiebe, former Newton residents.

The brothers had been left in the care of Mr. and Mrs. Howard A. Weeks while Mrs. Wiebe was at work in a Portland Hospital. She came to pick them up and found Mrs. Weeks dead in the living room. Shortly afterward the bodies of Mr. Weeks and the two boys were found in a bedroom. Their hands and feet had been bound and they had been beaten to death. The infant son of the Weeks' was found unharmed.

A memorial service for the brothers was held Thursday morning, March 28, at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Portland, and a private burial service was held the next day at a Portland Cemetery.

Mr. Wiebe, son of John D. Wiebe of Beatrice, Neb. and brother of Harold Wiebe of Newton, graduated from Bethel College in 1971. He is employed as an accountant by Evans Products Company. His wife, a nurse, is the former Eloise Slot, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Slot of York, Neb.
