NELSON WEDEL

Nelson Cornelius Wedel, son of Rev. Tobias and Eva Thomas Wedel, was born Feb. 27, 1900 in McPherson County, Kansas. He lived there until 1919 when he and his parents moved to a farm north of Ringwood, Okla. He was a resident of this community until his death.

His formal education ended with the seventh grade. He attended a Bible school in Moundridge one winter.

On Oct. 25, 1922 in Meno, Okla. he married Rena Kane. Two children were born to this marriage, Alfred Lewis, who lived four and one-half months, and Margie Lois. Had he lived until Oct. 25 he and his wife would have celebrated 50 years together.

On May 8, 1918 he was baptized by Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff and accepted into the Emanuel Mennonite Church of Moundridge, Kan. He was active in church all his life, working first in the New Hopedale Church and then West New Hopedale Church, serving as Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, and for almost 50 years as church secretary. He had a warm feeling for the Oklahoma Bible Academy. He worked many days in building construction and maintenance and served as treasurer of the board for 15 years.

He was preceded in death by an infant son and infant grandson. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, of the home; one daughter, Margie, and son-in-law, Harold Jantzen, of Kismet, Kan.; two grandchildren, Lois Ann and David; three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Smith of Ringwood, Mrs. Lena Koehn of McPherson, and Mrs. Susie Koehn of Galva.

We feel that his testimony to us would be that after a life time of joys and many sorrows he could say with emphasis that the Lord is faithful. — The Family.
