— Arnold C. Wedel of North Newton received word last week of the death of his father, Henry A. Wedel, which occurred Jan. 27 at Liberal, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Wedel and son attended the funeral services, held last Sunday at the Friedensfeld Mennonite church, Turpin, Okla. Rev. A. J. Dyck of Inman and Rev. Menno Ediger of Turpin officiated. Mr. Wedel was 74 years of age.

HENRY A. WEDEL

Henry A. Wedel, son of John and Anna Ratzlaff Wedel, was born in McPherson county, Kansas, on Dec. 15, 1880. He received his education in the Sparta elementary school close to his home.

When he reached the age of accountability, he realized his lost condition and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He was baptized by Rev. Abraham Shellenberg in July 1898 and was accepted into the Ebenezer Mennonite Brethren church, Buhler, Kansas. He later transferred his membership to the Friedensfeld Mennonite church of Tupin [sic Turpin], Okla., where he remained a faithful member to the end.

With his father, brothers and sisters he moved to Harvey county Kansas in 1904. In 1906 he moved to Beaver county, Okla. where he homesteaded nine miles southeast of Liberal, Kansas.

On Nov. 25, 1908, he was united in marriage with Maggie Wiens, with whom he shared the joys and hardships of life for more than 46 years. To this union four sons and four daughters were born.

He was a true husband and kind father, trying to live a life for Christ as best he knew how. He tried to lead his children to Christ also. He trusted in Christ to the end, and will be with Christ his Savior, whom he believed. His love and care will live, even though there are heartaches and the tear-drops flow.

He passed away on Jan. 27, 1955, after an illness of five weeks in the hospital in Liberal, Kans. He had been in failing health for about a year. He reached the age of 74 years, one month and 12 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Maggie Wedel; four sons and their wives, Arnold of Newton, Kans., Leonard, Wesley and Menno, all of Liberal; four daughters and their husband, Mrs. Frank Reamer of Bakersfield, Calif., Mrs. Curt Plett and Mrs. Ernest Isaac of Turpin, Okla., and Mrs. Marion Wichert of Buhler, Kans.; 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters of Buhler, Kans. and many other relatives and friends. — The Bereaved Family.
