DINA WEDEL

Miss Dina Wedel, daughter of David A. and Susanna Unruh Wedel, was born in Marion county, Kansas, on Feb. 25, 1885. The early years of her life were spent in Kansas. At the age of nine she came to Oklahoma with her parents and settled near Meno where her father had staked a claim during the opening of the Cherokee Strip.

On April 12, 1903, she was baptized upon the confession of her faith by Rev. John J. Ratzlaff, and received into the New Hopedale Mennonite church of Meno. Here she remained a faithful and loyal member until the Lord called her Home.

At the age of thirteen she suffered a severe attack of typhoid fever which left her with numerous handicaps for the rest of her life. She had made her home with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac C. Koehn since 1919. From here the Lord also called her to her heavenly Home on Sunday evening, Oct. 17, 1954, at the age of 69 years, seven months and 22 days.

Those who remain behind waiting to follow her are three sisters and their husbands: Caroline, Mrs. H. U. Schmidt, Mary, Mrs. Isaac C. Koehn, and Susie, Mrs. Tobe P. Unruh, all of Meno; one brother, Jacob Wedel and wife of Enid; also 10 nephews and 11 nieces. Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Edward, one nephew and three nieces.

She enjoyed fair health most of her life. Even in her final illness she became bedfast only as late as Oct. 1. She was a very content and pleasant patient. When asked if she was lonesome she said no, she had much to think about and that was her heavenly home.

Funeral services were held Oct. 19, 1954 in the New Hopedale Mennonite church and cemetery at Meno, Okla., with Rev. Arnold Epp officiating. A ladies trio, Mrs. Bob Richert, Mrs. Clayton Jantz and Mrs. Arnold Epp, served with songs.
