CORNELIUS C. WEDEL

Cornelius C. Wedel, was born to John and Anna (Ratzlaff) Wedel in McPherson county, Kansas on August 5, 1893. Here he spent his early childhood and attended the Sparta school. When he was but one and one-half years old, mother passed away. In 1904, when Cornelius was 10 years old, father and children moved to Harvey county, Kansas where Cornelius lived to the day of his death.

At the age of 17, Cornelius realized his lost condition and accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. He made public confession of his faith in Christ, was baptized on November 7, 1910, and was received into the membership of the Mennonite brethren Church.

Throughout his life, Cornelius' condition of health was usually good. He was energetic, worked diligently, and in every way sought to share his responsibility for our livelihood. About three weeks ago, Cornelius submitted to surgery. During his hospitalization, he suffered a severe heart attack, but with the help of expert medical care seemed to improve somewhat. We expected him to return home before long, when Sunday evening, we were notified of serious complications. Before his brother Peter could meet him at the bedside in the Bethel hospital at Newton, Cornelius had passed on to be with the Lord. On Sunday, July 17, at 7:00 p.m. Cornelius was relived [sic] of his illness and departed to his heavenly home. he attained the age of 61 years, 11 months, and 3 days.

Our brother was preceded in death by his father and mother, three brothers, Benjamin, John and Henry; and three sisters, Anna, Elizabeth, and Helena, the latter who died nine days ago. He leaves to mourn his departure two brothers, Peter and Jacob; two sisters, Susie and Katherine, all of Buhler, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. J. R. Wedel, Buhler, Kansas , and Mrs. H. A. Wedel, Liberal, Kansas; four nieces and four nephews; 24 great-grand nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends.

Although we cannot fully understand the leading of the Lord, nevertheless "We are continually with Him; for He has held us by our right hand." We shall deeply miss the presence of our brother, nevertheless, we do not despair, but trust in the Lord who will strengthen and comfort our hearts. We are confident that He is with Christ and that we, too, shall all be reunited in glory. — The Bereaved Brothers and Sisters.
