Well-Known Central Conf. Retired Pastor Dies in Illinois

Bloomington, Ill. — Rev. William B. Weaver, 78 [sic 76], well-known retired pastor of the Central District Conference (General Conference Mennonite Church), died at Mennonite Hospital here Dec. 12.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the North Danvers Mennonite Church where he had served as minister for 30 years. Rev. Herbert E. Miller, the present pastor, and Rev. Paul Roth of Carlock officiated.

During his long ministry at Danvers, Rev. Weaver was active in the work of the Central Conference as well as in church and community affairs. He served 12 years as editor of “The Christian Evangel” and for many years on the boards of the Congo Inland Mission and Bluffton College. After leaving the North Danvers pastorate, he was pastor of the Bethel Church at Pekin for two and a half years and of the Boynton Mennonite Church from 1954 until his retirement Jan. 1, 1961.

He was the author of several books, including histories of the Central Conference and the Congo Inland Mission.

A native of Shipshewana, Ind., Rev. Weaver was a graduate of Goshen College and taught at the college from 1914 to 1922. During most of this time he also served the Prairie Street Church, Elkhart. He received the master of arts degrees [sic] from Northwestern University in 1926.

Survivors include his wife, the former Fanny Stoltzfus of West Liberty, Ohio, three sons, five daughters, two sisters, 25 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
