— A resident of the Hesston community for the past 55 years, Mrs. Maria Weaver, passed away at the Bethel Deaconess hospital on March 30 at the age of 76. Rev. Earl Buckwalter and Rev. Owen Hershberger conducted the funeral services at the Pennsylvania Mennonite church last Friday afternoon. Mrs. Weaver was born at Lancaster, Pa., the daughter of John R. and Anna Hess. She is survived by a daughter, Lottie Weaver of Newton, and five sons, John H. of Newton, Harry L. of Moundridge, Albert H. and Earl H. of Hesston, and Edwin I. of the India mission field.

MARIA HESS WEAVER

Maria Hess Weaver, daughter of John R. and Anna Hess, was born June 11, 1871, at Weidmanville, Pa., where she grew to womanhood.

On December 21, 1893, in Lancaster, Pa., she was married to Moses M. Weaver. That same month they came to Harvey county, Kansas, and established their home, first on a farm near Newton and later near Hesston.

The following children were born to this union: John H., of Newton; Harry L., of Moundridge; Anna Grace (deceased June 29, 1925), Albert and Earl of Hesston; Edwin I., of Dondi C. P., India; and Lottie E., of Newton. She is survived also by fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, Marlin Weaver, having preceded her in death.

She came from a family of nine children, all of whom preceded her except one sister, Mrs. Anna Wolf of Akron, Pa.

Soon after marriage, she was converted, and became a lifelong member of the Pennsylvania Mennonite church, near Zimmerdale, lacking but a few years of being a charter member of that congregation.

Her life was marked by a quiet, conscientious devotion to God and to her family. She served to the Sunday School and in the sewing circle and other activities.

Since the passing of her husband, August 2, 1928, she continued to live on the home farm as a welcome grandmother with her son, Albert and family.

After nine days of loving care in the Bethel Deaconess hospital she peacefully fell asleep at 10:30 p. m., March 30, 1948, at the age of 76 years nine months and 19 days.

Funeral services on April 2 were conducted at the home of O. O. Hershberger, and at the Pennsylvania church by Earl Buckwalter.

Four favorite numbers were sung by the Conquerors Quartet of Hesston College, “Sunrise Tomorrow,” “My God and I,” “Beyond the Sunset,” and “Sunset Hour.” The quartet is composed of Howard Hershberger, Earl Greaser, Norman Teague, and Evan Oswald.

Interment was made in the family lot of the Pennsylvania Mennonite cemetery, Zimmerdale.
