MRS. LYDIA WEAVER

Lydia (Gerber) Weaver, daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Swartz) Gerber, was born near Harper, Kansas, May 29, 1890, and passed away following a prolonged illness at the Digby Rest Home in Harper Friday, August 26, 1955, age 65 years, two months and 28 days.

In her youth she united with the Pleasant Valley Mennonite church where she remained a faithful member. When she was 21 years of age she went to the orphan’s home in West Liberty, Ohio, where she served for six years. She also served three years at the Children’s Home in Kansas City, Kansas.

On June 5, 1927, she was united in marriage to R. M. Weaver. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mary Idell, (Mrs. Paul Shue) of Harper, and Wanda Lou (Mrs. Richard Good) of Harrisonburg, Va., two grandchildren; 12 step-children, Joseph N. of Meria, Pa., [note, line misplaced in original] Ernest L. of Denver, Colo., Myrtle (Mrs. Leo Hostetler) of Harper, Tillman of Wellman, Iowa, Truman of Newton, Kan., Sam G. of Wellman, Iowa, Ella May, (Mrs. Sam E. Miller), Harrisonburg, Va., Bertha, (Mrs. LaVern Miller) of Nampa, Idaho, Dale of Seoul, Korea, Edith (Mrs. Reuben Yoder) of Harper, Alta, (Mrs. Roy Fry) of Great Bend, Kansas, Anna Ruth, (Mrs. Howard Beck) of Hesston, Kansas; 41 step-grandchildren; two sisters, Amanda and Lena, and one brother Edward, all of Harper.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Sarah; one brother, Joseph; and one foster brother, Adolph Crum.

She was interested in the church and spent much of the time reading her Bible as long as she was able.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Aug. 29, 1955, at the Pleasant Valley Mennonite church near Harper. Waldo E. Miller conducted the devotional period, using as texts Eccl. 12 and I Thes. 4:13-18. Wilbert Nafziger gave the sermon, using as a text Rev. 14:13. Music was furnished by a mixed chorus under the direction of Mrs. Vernon Glassburn. Bu rial was made in the church cemetery with Gideon G. Yoder officiating at the committal service.
