Reedley Boy Injured Fatally in Accident.

Reedley, Calif., March 3. — Elvin Warkentine, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Warkentine of Bakersfield, was laid to rest Saturday morning in the Reedley Cemetery. The young man passed away Wednesday evening in Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, following an automobile accident Tuesday night. Rev. George Huebert, pastor of the Mennonite Brethren Church, officiated at the service.

According to reports of the accident, Warkentine and a companion left the former's home en route to Bakersfield, Warkentine reportedly pulled out into a middle lane to pass a truck when the truck made a left turn. In an endeavor to avoid hitting the truck, Warkentine swerved left and crashed into a tree.

He was removed from the wreckage and rushed to the Bakersfield hospital where it was found he suffered a bad concussion and severe back injuries. Physicians placed him in an oxygen tank but treatment was to no avail and he passed away Wednesday without regaining consciousness. — Reedley Exponent.
