JACOB H. WARKENTIN

Jacob H. Warkentin was born to Herman and Katrina (nee Neufeld) Warkentin in 1922. With his parents he came to Canada in 1925, settling on a farm in Munson, Alberta. He accepted Christ at the age of 15 and in 1937 enrolled in the Bible school in Didsbury, Alberta where he studied God's Word for two years. In 1942 he was baptized and joined the Bergthal Mennonite Church in Didsbury. Throughout the remainder of his life he remained active in the church, finding particular enjoyment in the singing ministry.

In 1950 he married Elsie Elizabeth Fast. The couple farmed in Munson, Alberta until 1967, when they travelled to Greendale, B.C. During their time in Greendale they enjoyed the fellowship of God's people, first in the Eden Mennonite Church and more recently in the Greendale Mennonite Brethren Church.

Last summer the Warkentins celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. In the fall of 1975 Mr. Warkentin's health began to deteriorate, and cancer was diagnosed. He passed away quietly on February 15. The funeral service was held in the Greendale MB Church on February 19 with pastor Harry Heidebrecht officiating. Peter Reimer spoke in the German language.

Left to mourn are his beloved wife, Elsie; three sons, Peter and Erwin at home and Karl and his wife, Daryl, of Chilliwack, B.C.; his mother, Katrina Warkentin; two sisters Mary and Erna (Mrs. Henry) Goerzen; one brother, Abe; and many other relatives and friends.
