HELEN WARKENTIN

Helen Warkentin of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away Mar. 28. She was born Dec. 17, 1926 to Jacob and Helena Neufeld at Waldheim, Sask. They lived briefly in Rosedale, Alta. and Agassiz, B.C. She attended school in Abbotsford, B.C. and one year at MB Bible Institute in Abbotsford. Her mother died in 1940. In 1947 she married Henry Warkentin. They attended MB Bible College in Winnipeg for 3 years. They moved to Yarrow, B.C., where he taught in the Bible institute and she was a secretary for the West Coast Children's Mission, giving monthly Bible lessons by mail to 4000 children. In 1956 they moved to Kitchener, Ont., where he studied at the university and taught part-time at Ontario Bible Institute and she worked part-time. They pastored Leamington (Ont.) MB Church 1959-64, then pastored Broadway MB Church in Chilliwack, B.C. for 12 years. In 1976 they moved to Watrous, Sask. , where they pastored Philadelphia MB Church until 1990, except for 4 years when they pastored in Starnberg, West Germany. They then retired to Chilliwack. Just before the move, she was diagnosed as having terminal cancer. However, she enjoyed her final months living near her children and grandchildren. Her life was characterized by joyful and dedicated service to people for the Lord. She is mourned by her husband; daughters Ruth Schulz, Doris Eichstadt and Kerri and sons Carl and Paul, all but Paul living in Chilliwack; 7 grandchildren; 1 sister and 1 brother. The funeral was Apr. 1 in Broadway MB Church, Chilliwack, with Robert Friesen ministering.
