FRANKIE WARKENTIN

Frankie Warkentin was born August 4. 1958 at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, the son of Frank and Ruth Warkentin of Newton Siding. He was a normal child until his sixth year when during the first year in school he began to suffer from a malady that gradually affected his power of movement and his mental powers.

In June of this year he was examined at the Children's Hospital in Winnipeg but his condition continued to grow worse. Neither doctors nor chiropracters were able to help him.

On October 4 he came to the lumberyard office where his father worked to see him. It was near closingtime and the men were preparing to go home. The father thought Frankie had gone home and in the process of moving a truck that was outside the yard ran over the boy who was playing at one of the front wheels. The boy died instantly. A sister witnessed the accident from a distance but was unable to shout a warning.

Frankie was seven years old when he died. The funeral was in the Mennonite Brethren Church at Newton Siding. He is survived by his parents, Frank and Ruth Warkentin and three sisters.
