LOCAL NEWS

. . .

— Newton friends were greatly shocked when it became known last week that Carl B. Warkentin, nationally prominent miller of Kansas City, had passed away on Wednesday afternoon from gunshot wound, self-inflicted. The tragedy took place in the bathroom of his home after he had taken lunch with his wife and daughter Hester. His father the late Bern. Warkentin, was the founder of the large milling company of which C. B. Warkentin now was president. Following a service in Kansas City, the body was brought to Newton, where burial rites were held at the former Warkentin home on East First street. The home is now occupied by Bethel Hospital deaconesses, having been given to the hospital by the late Mrs. B. Warkentin, mother of Mr. Warkentin. Entombment was made in the private mausoleum in Greenwood cemetery.
