KATHERINA GRABER WALTNER

Katrherina Graber Waltner, daughter of Jacob and Maria Graber, was born in Schernigov, Russia, on May 23, 1878. The was the youngest in the family of 10 children. In 1883 she migrated with her parents to America and settled in Turner County, S. D.

Katherina was baptized on March 26, 1893, by Rev. Joseph Kaufman, and became a member of the Salem-Zion church of Marion, S. D. Later membership was transferred to the Salem church, Freeman, S. D., where she was a faithful member until her death.

On June 11, 1896, she was united in marriage with Joseph J. Waltner, Jr. and lived together in wedded life for 55 years. He husband died Nov. 10, 1951.

Because she did not have any children of her own, she poured out that love and concern to others, and became the friend of all. To know her meant to receive of her kindness and unselfishness. Mrs. Waltner loved to visit with friends and relatives, and greatly appreciated the kindness and care shown her during the past two years of her earthly life as a resident at the Salem Home at Freeman, S. D. In quietness and with confidence she waited upon the Lord who was her refuge and her strength.

Mrs. Waltner enjoyed good health most of her life. During the last years an ailing nerve in her face caused her considerable discomfort. She underwent surgery on Aug. 23 at Sioux Valley hospital at Sioux Falls, S. D. Complications that followed caused her passing on Aug. 27. She attained the age of 82 years, three months, and four days.

Her passing is mourned by one brother Carl and his wife of Freeman, S. D., several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Salem church of Freeman, S. D., on Aug. 30 in charge of Rev. J. Herbert Fretz. She was laid to rest at the church cemetery.
