Long-Time Banker Called By Death at Freeman

Freeman, S. D. — Jonathan J. Waltner, long-time banker here, died at the Freeman Community hospital on Oct. 14 at the age of 74.

A native of this community, he began his banking career at the age of 15 when he accepted employment in the First National Bank, established here by his father and uncles in 1902. He served in this bank for more than 56 years, one of the longest terms of service in the state. He served a number of terms as president of the district bankers association.

Survivors include his wife, Adina, one son, one daughter, five grandchildren, and his aged father, John J. Waltner.
