● Former Goessel resident P. C. Voth, 89, died Aug. 13 at Mercy Hospital in Moundridge. Funeral services were held Aug. 16 at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with Ronald Krehbiel officiating. Born in Marion County on Feb. 24, 1891, he married Mary Schmidt at Goessel Nov. 16, 1916. She died June 9 of this year. Survivors include sons Albert of Newton, Waldo and Charley of Hesston and Wilbert of Inman; daughters Olga (Mrs. Marvin) Dester of Deer Creek, Okla., Ella (Mrs. Jason) Jantz of McPherson and Irma (Mrs. Alden) Schroeder of Canton; brothers Cornelius Jr. of Goessel and Abe of Halstead; and a sister Lena Voth of Goessel.

PETER C. VOTH

Peter C. Voth, son of Cornelius and Katharina (Voth) Voth, was born Feb. 24, 1891 on a farm in Marion County, Kan. He received his elementary education in the Goessel community, attended the Goessel Preparatory School, and spent one year at Bethel College. He was baptized on May 26, 1912 by Heinrich Banman and remained a lifelong member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.

During his younger years he enjoyed singing in a men's quartet. He greatly enjoyed reading, along with listening to religious radio programs and quartet music.

He was married to Mary Schmidt on Nov. 16, 1916, and they settled on a farm one mile east of the Alexanderwohl church, remaining there until moving to Pleasant View Home at Inman, Kan. in 1973. They shared more than 63 years of married life, and became the parents of four boys and three girls.

He greatly enjoyed all areas of farming, often exchanging help with neighboring farmers. He took a special interest in his grandchildren and was always concerned about their well-being. He especially enjoyed having them visit and play on the farm.

He had been in failing health for some time, and when his wife died his health declined and hospitalization became necessary. He died on Aug. 13, 1980 at the age of 89.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Albert and Ann Voth of rural Newton, Marvin and Olga Dester of Deer Creek, Okla., Waldo and Orpha Voth of Hesston, Wilbert and Hilda Voth of Inman, Jason and Ella Jantz of McPherson, Charley and Lillian Voth of Hesston and Alden and Irma Schroeder of rural Canton; a sister, Lena, two brothers, Cornelius, Jr., and Abraham and wife Rosa, a sister-in-law, Martha Voth, 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and one grandson.
