Father and Son Die ln Highway Crash Near Goessel

Goessel, Kan. — A highway accident north of here Friday afternoon, Aug 7, claimed the lives of Orville D. Voth, 45, well-known dairy farmer and his son, Lyndell David, 13.

Funeral services for the father and son were held Tuesday forenoon at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with Rev Aaron J. Epp, the pastor, officiating. The family suggested memorial contributions to the Mennonite Central Committee for relief work.

The Voth farmstead is located west of the Alexanderwohl Church, one mile north of Goessel. Mr. Voth and his son were traveling north along Highway 15 with tractor and wagon when they were hit from behind by a semi-truck and trailer. The truck ran over the tractor and wagon and careened into a ditch.

Mr. Voth was pronounced dead at the scene, and Lyndell died later at Bethesda Hospital. The truck driver was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and released.

Surviving Mr. Voth and son are the widow, Mrs. Frances Voth, a son, Bryson, and daughters Coleen and Jody, all of the home; parents, Mr. and Mrs. David S. Voth of Newton; four brothers, Orlando D. and Irvin D. of Route 2, Newton, Paul D. at Bend, Ore., and Milo D. of Custer, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. John G. (Esther) Fast of Beatrice, Neb.; and Mrs. Voth’s mother, Mrs. Marie Funk at Route 2, Newton.
